Description from the seller
Emmanuelle Pellet - Lovers on Mauritius Island: Pamplemousses
Acrylic painting
H: 18.7 cm W: 24 cm
Unique piece, hand-painted, signed and numbered
About the work:
Our lovers on vacation in Mauritius continue their collection of names of picturesque villages. In Pamplemousses, on the edge of the large basin of the giant Victoria water lilies, the stroll turns into a botany lesson: the paradise promised by the place may not be what one believes.
She, with long blonde hair and a red dress, offers her partner a fruit with a mischievous air. He, a bearded with curly hair and a camera around his neck, examines his tomato with a wholly masculine perplexity, as a man who probably expected more from a renowned garden. Around them, the green and golden light of the tall trees reflects on the water.
With her pop-surrealist touch, Emmanuelle Pellet blends a nearly documentary precision of the Mauritian setting and caricatured characters with tenderness, in a humor that arises from a simple village name. Here, irony is doubled by a nod to Genesis, barely hinted.
About the artist:
Art historian by training, Emmanuelle Pellet studied at the École du Louvre then at the Sorbonne, before being awarded the Agrégation in Plastic Arts (3rd place). After several years of teaching, she joined the Louvre Museum as head of educational outreach.
Her career today fuels a personal body of work where mastery of painting dialogues with a deep culture of imagery and the history of art. Her creations have been exhibited in galleries in Paris, London, Singapore and Mauritius, and have been the subject of numerous publications. They now feature in private collections in Europe, North America, Asia and the Indian Ocean.
