Portret van een glimlachende vrouw met hoed, an oil painting from the Netherlands dating to 1900–1910.
Description from the seller
Atmospheric, impressionistic portrait of a woman. Loose brushwork, warm flesh tones, a slight smile and a dark hat against a greenish background field. No visible signature.
The work fits within the circle of the Hague School. The quick, sketchy brushwork, the informal character, and above all the living smile are close to the type of portrait studies by Isaac Israëls. That is a stylistic attribution, not proven authorship.
Technical characteristics:
- original canvas on a wooden stretcher frame, with old nails along the edge.
- Normal aging signs: craquelure, light wear and surface scratches.
- Back side untreated linen with a simple hanging cord.
An honest, atmospheric portrait from the period, interesting for collectors of Dutch Impressionism — precisely because the painter’s hand can still be studied further.
