Description from the seller
Period lithographic advertising print (1930), signed by the illustrator Le Clercq.
This Art Deco work promotes the 'Bières de Garde', wines and spirits of Brasserie Arnould Mochez, based in Onnaing in the Nord of France. The humorous illustration features a jovial medieval-inspired character admiring a generously foamy beer.
Artist: Le Clercq
Printer: Grau, Merfi & Cie, Lille
Era: 1930
Technique: Original lithography on paper
Poster dimensions: 119.5 x 80 cm (+ 5 cm of mounting margins)
Conservation mounting & Condition:
The poster has benefited from high-quality conservation treatment: it is mounted on acid-free Bolloré paper and affixed to an unprimed, off-white cotton canvas. This reversible technique ensures flatness and protects the paper for decades to come.
Defect to note: Presence of an old tear starting at the upper edge and running vertically down to the letter "E" in the word "DE" (just before "GARDE"). Thanks to professional mounting, this tear is perfectly stabilized, kept flat, and no longer risks spreading. Lighter areas in the black flat}
The colors of the central subject and the character remain magnificently fresh.
A very beautiful piece of brewing history, ready to be framed.
