Paesaggio con cascate - NO RESERVE, an oil painting from the 19th century of Italian origin, attributed to the Scuola italiana (XIX), depicting a Romantic landscape with a waterfall, signed by hand and sold with a frame, measuring 39 × 33 cm.
Description from the seller
With frame:
33x39 cm
Without frame:
24x29 cm
The painting depicts an 19th-century landscape view with a waterfall, a subject typical of the vedute tradition in European art and of painters associated with the stages of the Grand Tour in Italy.
From a visual analysis of the composition, the style strongly recalls the historical representations of famous Italian natural sites greatly loved by 19th-century artists, in particular:
• The Tivoli Falls (in the Roman countryside)
• The Marmore Falls (near Terni)
This kind of period painting was often created by masters of the Italian school or by foreign artists (such as the English Victorian school or German and French painters resident in Rome) fascinated by the lush nature and the woodland waterfalls of the Apennines. The work is housed in a sumptuous gilded frame with convex motifs characteristic of the period or in a matching style, which enhances its perspectival depth.
