CCCP Aleksandrov – rare mechanical automatic in Soviet style

This extraordinary CCCP Aleksandrov presents itself in a very striking red finish. The interplay of the red leather strap, the red-gold-toned case, and the unusually constructed dial makes it a watch that clearly stands out from the mass of classic wristwatches.

Particularly characteristic is the unusual time display with several overlapping display elements and the central star shape. The design consciously recalls the technical and graphic aesthetics of the Soviet spaceflight and industrial era. Comparable Aleksandrov models are listed as automatic mechanical watches with unusual, partly disk-based time display.

With your specimen, the red, cut-out area of the dial also stands out, through which parts of the mechanical movement become visible. Together with the large star, this creates a near-futuristic “Soviet-Industry” look.

The name Aleksandrov refers to Aleksandr Aleksandrov, a Soviet mathematician, physicist and philosopher. The design of the dial was conceived as a homage to his scientific work. Particularly characteristic is the star in the center, which rotates as a seconds indicator. The hour and minute display occur via the unusually arranged rings or discs. This should not simply be a traditional time display, but reflect mathematical and scientific design ideas.
