Italian school (XVIII) - L'Arcangelo Michele

Old painting, oil on canvas mounted on a panel, depicting the Archangel Michael in warrior dress with a helmet decorated with feathers, while he holds a balance often associated with his role as the weigh­er of souls and a sword from which a flame bursts forth. The subject shows strong echoes of Baroque representations of the Italian school. The youthful expression of the face, the dark wings, and the use of light contrast typical of seventeenth-century chiaroscuro. Frame not contemporary.
