Description from the seller
Magnificent bronze reduction with brown patina representing Diana of Gabii (goddess Artemis), after the famous antique marble masterpiece preserved at the Louvre Museum and traditionally attributed to the Greek sculptor Praxiteles.
The goddess is depicted with great grace and finesse at the moment of fastening her mantle (the diplax) onto her right shoulder. The details of the wet drapery, the folds of the tunic, the delicate features of the face as well as the tied sandals testify to high-quality chasing and casting work, characteristic of the productions of the Grand Tour in the second half of the 19th century.
Unmarked model, faithful to high-quality editions of the period (such as the productions of the Barbedienne workshops or Raingo Frères).
Features & Condition:
• Era: Second half of the 19th century (circa 1870-1880)
• Material: Real bronze with brown patina (not regulus)
• Height: 35 cm
• Condition: Very good overall condition. Magnificent original patina with slight and subtle signs of use that give it its charm and authenticity. No damage, no restorations.
A classic, timeless piece and highly decorative, ideal for collectors of Grand Tour items and classical antiques
