Description from the seller
Splendid Antique Desk Set and Historical Stationery (Late 19th – Early 20th Century)
Precious, exceedingly rich, and complete collection lot comprising an antique office desk set and a wide selection of stationery and postal history items from Italian and international origins, dating from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The pieces are in excellent vintage condition.
List and Details of the Lot Components:
• Double Antique Inkwell: Solid structure with a heavy black glass base, equipped with a double compartment for transparent faceted glass bottles and sturdy metal caps. Includes a red-tinted wood pen-holder straw.
• Antique Small Box "C. Manfredi" (Turin, pre-1920): Very rare promotional case with a sliding drawer opening, bearing the beautiful period engraving of the emporium "C. Manfredi - Novità, Profumerie, Biancheria Americana e Trastulli" located at the historic address of Via Finanze No. 3 and 5 in Turin (the street renamed Via Cesare Battisti after World War I). An exceptional piece of Italian commercial memorabilia.
• John Mitchell No. 0419 Box with 47 Original Nibs: Original cardboard box decorated by the famous Birmingham firm, commemorating the medal won at the Paris Exposition of 1855. Contains 47 original John Mitchell nibs (box largely intact for its era).
• Large International Lot of Loose Nibs (25 additional pieces): Extensive extra assortment of historic nibs for dipping in excellent condition.
• Lot of Antique Sealing Wax
Highly interesting selection for Italian postal history, consisting of:
• Staff with official engraving "REGIE POSTE ITALIANE" (Regno d’Italia period, pre-1946).
• Stick with factory mark "Superiore Morandi", historic Italian manufacture.
• Thin cylindrical wax stick for delicate seals marked in English "Vermilion WAX" (high-quality vermilion shade).
• Rare Desktop Advertising Display: Block of solid wood cut in a crescent shape, covered in two-tone white and red paper, bearing on the front the original silvery illustration of an eagle with wings spread, gripping a branch.
• Vintage pocket pencil sharpener in brass by USO, produced in Germany in the 1920s or 1930s by Fusor GmbH in Berlin.
A peculiarity of this mechanical device lies in its economical operation for its era: instead of using an integrated fixed blade, it was designed to house a common interchangeable razor blade.
• Wax Seal Stamp: Seal stamp with elegant turned black wood handle and a circular brass base plate, finely hand-engraved with a shield monogram and initials in a flowering cursive script (late 19th / early 20th century).
