AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Much less common than their ordinary chondrite sisters, carbonaceous chondrites represent 5% of the meteorites that reach Earth. They are characterized by the presence of carbon in their composition—hence their name—usually in the form of organic compounds like amino acids. In addition, carbonaceous chondrites often contain water or minerals that indicate they have been altered by its presence. Of dark and generally abundant matrix, they are the oldest meteorites known and therefore the oldest material you could ever have between your hands.

CK meteorites are carbonaceous chondrites with a matrix in dark gray tones, sometimes slightly greenish, with abundant chondrules that can range from type 3 to 6, with an average diameter of 1 mm, i.e., somewhat smaller than CVs and larger than COs (the family of carbonaceous meteorites with which they are related). They sometimes contain sizable CAIs. Additionally, some CK members exhibit shock veins that indicate a violent history for their parent body or an impact history.

The specimen of this lot has a nice oriented shape that speaks to the way the meteorite traveled through the atmosphere. It has an excellent size, and a fusion crust on much of its outer surface semi‑transformed into desert patina, something hard to find in this type of carbonaceous chondrites. Ideal for a great collection or museum.

All our meteorites come with an IMCA certificate (International Meteorite Collectors Association), guaranteeing the authenticity of all our meteorites for life. Buy with guarantees.

Best regards and our best wishes.
