Original acrylic and oil painting by Maurizio Valch (b. 1972), titled '(XL) STATIO · Oblique Tensions on Indigo and Crimson', created in 2026, a landscape in red on a 105 cm by 75 cm canvas and weighing 500 g, signed by hand, shipped unframed and rolled, and originating from Spain.
Description from the seller
In RETENTIO, pale, block-like forms sit precariously on thin, diagonal lines incised directly into a dense, saturated crimson field. These scored lines do not merely divide the space; they act as fragile ledges holding the masses back from sliding into the background. The visual tension lies in this precarious friction: a minimal, sharp intervention on the canvas becomes the only structural support keeping the blocks from being absorbed by the color.
To protect a form within this dense red space, I find I must first wound the canvas. Cutting into the layers of acrylic and oil is not an act of destruction, but of containment. These incised lines are physical niches, shelves of resistance where a shape can rest. By scraping back the wet pigment, I create a foothold. I carve these marks with my own tools to secure a fragile stability, holding onto what would otherwise drift away.
___
I am interested in how a form can remain isolated and still alter what surrounds it. I do not seek to make these marks describe a path or have their relationships resolve into a recognizable figure. I work with the possibility that a surface can retain traces of passage, boundaries, and presences that never fully reveal themselves. Sometimes, a minimal distance between two elements is enough to change the meaning of the entire territory.
**Condition and Shipping**
The artwork is in excellent condition, with no damage or restoration.
It is shipped unframed and unstretched, carefully rolled inside a protective tube to ensure safe delivery.
**About the Artist**
Maurizio Valch is a visual artist, writer, and graphic designer. His work explores metaphysical territories, symbolic landscapes, and the relationship between geological space and human consciousness.
Through dark fields, incised surfaces, monolithic forms, and structural divisions, Valch creates paintings that suggest the emergence of perception within the territory itself.
