Hand-blown crystal desk paperweight in the Crown / Maypole design, attributed to Baccarat (France), dating from circa 1850–1900, with multicolored filigree arches and a central air bubble, on a frosted pontil base, about 6.5–7 cm in diameter, in very good vintage condition.
Description from the seller
Magnificent and exclusive handmade blown art crystal vintage paperweight, attributed to the prestigious French Baccarat manufactory (according to provenance label in a French antiques gallery). A highly collectible piece that exemplifies the technical virtuosity of the 19th century.
The interior design corresponds to the iconic "Crown / Maypole" format (Crown Glass Paperweight). It features a perfectly controlled central air bubble acting as a core, from which delicate ribbons and multicolored filigree filaments (red, blue, green and white) emerge. These arches curve symmetrically toward the base, crowned at their ends by microbubbles of controlled air. The entire ensemble rests on a floating bed of frit (multicolor crushed glass) that provides exceptional shine and depth under light.
Technical Details and Condition:
• Origin: Baccarat attribution / high-era crystal (France). Retains an old handwritten gallery tag reading "Baccara antique".
• Technique: Hand-blown glass, filigree technique and controlled air bubbles.
• Base: Frosted pontil and worn from natural friction, an unmistakable sign of its handcrafted manufacture and legitimate age (not industrial mold production).
• Dimensions: Approximately 6.5 - 7 cm in diameter.
• Condition: In very good vintage condition. The crystal maintains excellent clarity and transparency. Shows the usual signs of wear and subtle nicks on the base due to its age, which confirms its authenticity (see detailed photos).
A unique opportunity for high-era artistic glass collectors and enthusiasts of classic French crystal.
