This oil painting on canvas is a vibrant and expressive seascape in an impressionist or post-impressionist style that captures a dramatic sunset over the sea. The composition is dominated by an intense and saturated palette of warm colors (incandescent yellows, deep oranges and magentas) in the sky and cools (intense blues and purples) both in the upper atmosphere and in the water, creating a high-impact visual contrast. A sailing boat, a dinghy or similar, is in the foreground on the left, sailing toward the horizon, with its mainsail also touched by the warm tones of the sunset. The technique stands out for its use of thick, gestural brushstrokes (impasto), which add texture and movement to both the turbulent clouds and the crests of the waves in the foreground, vividly reflecting the intense yellows of the setting sun on the undulating surface of the sea. In the distance, to the right, the silhouette of a mountainous mass appears, balancing the composition. The piece conveys a sense of dramatic energy and solitary voyage before the majesty of nature.
