Description from the seller

Rare Oval Tray "Poonah"
- Charles Meigh - Ceramics
English Ironstone - c. 1835-1849
Captivating and rare small roughly oval tray in Ironstone ceramic (Opaque Porcelain), produced by the renowned English factory Charles Meigh in Hanley (Staffordshire) during the early Victorian period (circa 1835-1849).
The plate features the iconic and sought-after "Poonah" motif, a splendid Chinoiserie/Imari transfer-in-ink design, finely hand-finished with polychrome enamels and rich gold detailing on the edge. The decoration depicts large pink peonies, cobalt-blue foliage, exotic birds, and butterflies.
Back: The pattern catalog number 1447 is traceably hand-written in red by the period decorator. A short distance away, under the display case, you can glimpse the factory stamp (backstamp) impressed in cobalt blue, characteristic of Meigh production from this period.
• Dimensions: 21 cm x 16 cm. An unusual size and decidedly rarer than the classic round flat plates of the same series.
Condition:
The piece is in good conservational condition for its age (nearly 190 years). The enamel colors and the gilt on the edge are exceptionally vivid and bright. There is widespread natural crazing of the transparent glaze and very slight time-toning on the back, typical and authentic marks of 19th-century ironstone ceramics that attest to its authenticity and do not compromise its structural integrity (no chipping or hairline crack).
Please examine the close-up photos carefully for an accurate assessment of the item’s condition. It will be shipped with professional tracked packaging.
