Incision explores matter at the moment it is crossed and revealed. The cut becomes a visual gesture capable of bringing into dialogue surface and depth, structure and light, transforming the natural element into a presence that is almost sculptural. The richness of textures, the layering of colors, and the internal details build a tension between precision and organicity, where matter itself becomes the protagonist.
Sandra Chinelate, Italobrazilian, works on the physical and existential inquiry conducted with the tools of figurative painting. Trained in literature, and as a child a self-taught artist, she moved to Italy and, influenced by her multiple sociolinguistic gaze, conducts her artistic research with the aim of promoting an encounter between different social subjects, where different ages, skin colors, passions and human doubts are contemplated from a strong desire on the part of the artist to exalt their facets, safeguarding her characters from any pre-judgment. She dedicates herself with equal fervor to the search for detail, light, and perspective in her beloved technique of hyperrealism, in which she has specialized since her earliest artistic experiments. Since 2005 she has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. She works with oil and mixed media on canvas and panel.
For the catalog of one of her most important solo exhibitions, she had reviewed by Rome-based art critic Lea Mattarella, at the end of which she wrote: "and if there is pain, if there is fatigue, Chinelate takes into herself the words of Rumi, the medieval Sufi poet, convinced that 'the wound is the point from which the light can penetrate inside you'".
This is the principle Sandra Chinelate applies to the human soul she depicts as well as to objects, all in equal balance of importance and order.
