Madonna della Tenda, an oil on canvas painting from 19th‑century Italy after Raphael, measuring 68 × 55 cm.
Description from the seller
An elegant and well-executed historical oil painting on canvas representing the Madonna della Tenda (Madonna of the Curtain), following the world-famous Renaissance composition by Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio).
The painting captures a tender devotional scene featuring the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus, with the young Saint John the Baptist looking on with joined hands from behind. The composition derives its traditional name from the green curtain (tenda) visible draped in the upper right background.
The color palette is rich and striking, dominated by the deep red of Mary's robe and the warm, soft flesh tones of the children, all illuminated by subtle halos. The artist successfully captures the classical harmony, emotional depth, and sweet facial expressions characteristic of Raphael's original masterpiece.
The artwork is in good, stable condition. It presents an authentic aged surface with fine craquelure throughout and some typical minor scuffs or light wear consistent with its age, adding to its antique character. The paint layers remain vibrant and intact. The painting is safely housed in a beautiful, prominent 7 cm wide profiled wooden frame decorated with carved classical wave ornamentation.
