bernard buffet - La piscine de la Baume - 1980s

Bernard BUFFET (1928-1999) - "La piscine de la Baume" - Large original color lithograph (1987) - 70 x 49 cm

Superb and large original color lithograph signed and dated in the plate by the great French Expressionist master Bernard Buffet (1928-1999).

Titled "La piscine de la Baume" (1987), this work perfectly illustrates the artist's linear, architectural graphic universe. The composition features a rectangular deep-blue swimming pool in the foreground, in front of the artist's famous Provençal villa framed by tall, rigid black cypress trees. The whole stands out against a background of hills and a characteristic textured sky.

The incisive graphic style with thick black lines, Bernard Buffet's inimitable signature, brings a stunning geometry and a unique dramatic force to this Southern landscape.
