Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Cream-coloured glazed maiolica sculpture of a winged putto lying on a capitonné cushion in Art Déco style, circa 1920–1930, made in France, 28 cm long, 18.5 cm high, 12.3 cm deep, unsigned and in good overall condition with a uniform crackle glaze and two tiny chips at the cushion base and on the face.
Description from the seller
Refined sculpture depicting a winged putto reclining on a relief-decorated cushion with capitonné motifs and tassels at the corners. The work is made in glazed white cream ceramic/maiolica, with a suggestive and extensive craquelure effect (craquelure of the glaze) uniformly distributed across the surface, typical of antique-era wares.
The figure shows an excellent rendering of details: the curls of the hair, the definition of the feathers on the wings and the softness of the anatomical forms recall classical Neoclassical models revived between the early twentieth century and the Art Deco period.
On the lower part there are the typical era vent holes for firing and a reinforcing ribbed structure. Although no visible signatures are present, the craftsmanship, the quality of the glaze and the base confirm the dating to the era (first half of the 20th century).
Subject: Winged Putto / Cherub on a cushion
Material: Maiolica / Glazed terracotta (Crackle Glaze)
Color: White cream / Ivory
Era: 1920–1930 approx
Provenance: (France)
Dimensions: Length 28 cm | Height about 18.5 cm | Depth: 12.3 cm
Conditions: The object is in overall excellent condition, structurally intact and free of restorations. The glaze retains its original gloss with uniform craquelé.
Only two micro-chips (minuscule chips) are noted on the lower part of the front left foot of the cushion (visible in front lower left), and on the face (left side), elements that do not compromise its stability or aesthetic rendering. Please refer to the attached images for a detailed view of the conservation status.
