Mattino, an oil on panel painting dated 1936 by Mario Albano (1896–1968), Italy, 24 × 29.5 cm, original edition from the 1930s, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
The selected work, titled "Mattino" (Morning), is an oil painting on panel created by the Piedmontese painter Mario Albano (Turin, 1896–1968).
The painting belongs to the figurative and Piedmontese landscape style of the first half of the twentieth century.
The main characteristics of this painting include:
• Natural and rural landscape painting:
The subject focuses on a poetic representation of the countryside, with a marked attention to the everyday and intimate atmospheres of the Piedmontese territory.
• Thick, tactile brushwork:
The style is distinguished by chunky, visible color strokes (typical of the artist's early and mature phases), where the volumes of trees, the small bridge and the rural farmhouse are defined through dense color patches and synthetic fields.
• Tonalism and chromatic intimacy:
The palette plays on natural tonal variations of greens, ochres, and blues, aimed at conveying the soft, melancholic or evocative light typical of the morning or transitional moments of the day (although Albano was particularly famous for his “crepuscular” and nocturnal visions, which earned him the nickname Notturnino).
A good painter with nineteenth-century sensibility and easily identifiable brushwork.
I have participated in various national exhibitions (Bologna, Milan, Genoa).
He exhibited regularly at the Promotrice and at the Circolo degli Artisti of Turin, an artist easily reachable in the Turin market.
