Up for auction a large masterpiece by Jan Knikker junior. One of the most extensive scenes by this well-known painter. A work teeming with details of the well-known Giethoorn that remains beloved to this day. A monumental work from his oeuvre with a very finely richly adorned gold frame.

Jan Simon Knikker, nickname Jan, was born in 1911 in Leiden. He lived and worked in Wassenaar, Voorschoten and The Hague. Signed with Jan Knikker jr. Son of Jan Simon Knikker sr. He was a pupil of the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague (1928-1932) and he painted in a figurative manner landscapes and cityscapes. He is regarded as a follower of the Hague School and he worked a lot for the art trade. His landscapes/cityscapes are also particularly sought after abroad.
