ROUSSEAU, Jean-Jacques.
Works of J. J. Rousseau of Geneva.

Vols I to XIII: Amsterdam, Marc-Michel Rey, 1772 (in-8°, enriched with the author’s portrait by Ramsay engraved by Martinet and splendid illustrations set in text-free plates).

Vols XXVII to XXXIII: Supplement to the Works of J. J. Rousseau, 1782.

The Amsterdam general edition (1772) and its extensions are adorned with a frontispiece portrait of Jean-Jacques Rousseau after Ramsay (engraved in a medallion on a pedestal bearing the motto Vitam impendere vero), as well as numerous copper-engraved illustrations (not collation-marked) accompanying the major philosophical and fictional texts (La Nouvelle Héloïse, Émile, The Social Contract, etc.).

Copper engravings not collated.

Splendid complete set in 33 volumes, preserved in its superb period full-move bindings in glazed calf. Minor wear to heads and corners, minute foxing inherent to 18th-century paper, overall interior very fresh and well kept. The endpapers preserve magnificent original multicolored marbled papers as well as old handwritten notes cataloging the entire collection.

Very fine copy.
