Description from the seller
MANFRED LINUS KREINER (1926–2005)
Title: John F. Kennedy & Jacqueline Kennedy — Return to the White House after the Parade, 1961
DESCRIPTION:
Magnificent photograph taken by photographer Manfred Linus Kreiner in Washington, D.C., on January 20, 1961, during John F. Kennedy’s inauguration day as the 35th president of the United States.
The image captures John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy in the presidential open-top car, at the end of the inaugural parade. Jacqueline Kennedy turns toward the crowd and faces the camera with a broad smile, while the couple is at the level of the White House portico, on the way back to the presidential residence.
The presence of the crowd gathered behind the car, the security agents, and the architectural elements of the White House give the scene its full historical dimension, while revealing a moment that is particularly spontaneous and warm.
Jacqueline Kennedy’s smile lends this photograph a human and elegant dimension, contrasting with the solemn character of the inaugural day.
This photograph belongs to the The Kennedy Years corpus by Manfred L. Kreiner, rediscovered from the original negatives kept in the photographer’s estate archives.
