Decorative pair of porcelain cassolettes in Sevres style, made in France in the late 19th century (circa 1870–1890), about 28 cm high and 14 cm in diameter, with blue and multicolour painted flowers on a white background, gold trim, apocryphal blue interlaced L marks with date letter B and initials A.G.; condition good with some wear to gilding and minor age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Rare and very beautiful pair of decorative cassolettes in Sevres-style porcelain, hand-painted and richly enhanced with fine gold. High-quality work from the late 19th century (circa 1870–1890). They feature an elegant neoclassical urn shape on a small pedestal and square base. The decoration shows charming bouquets of spring flowers in white reserves, set against a vivid blue background and outlined by wide gilded bands with floral motifs and scrollwork. The two pieces bear beneath their bases the apocryphal mark of two interlaced “L”s painted in blue, accompanied by the date letter “B” and the initials “A.G.” (imitating 18th‑century productions). The body stems’ bottoms are originally drilled to receive a threaded rod and nut, confirming their exclusive decorative function as cassolettes of the period (probably originally covered).
Height about 28 cm, maximum diameter about 14 cm, bases 10 cm square. Very good overall condition for their age, with no cracks or chips. The gilded edges and highlights show wear to varying degrees, with more noticeable loss of gilding on the base of the foot of one of the pieces, as well as fine scratches (cleaning patina). The feet show a slight wobble due to screw wear but remain well supported. Weight approximately 800 g to 1 kg per piece.
