St. Mark the Evangelist (in Hebrew מרקוס‎?; in Greek Μάρκος?, Márkos; in Biblical Greek Μᾶρκος?, Mârkos; Cirene or Cyprus, ca. 7 – Alexandria, Egypt, in the second half of the 1st century) was a disciple of the Apostle Paul and, later, of Peter. According to Christian tradition, he is considered the author of the Gospel according to Mark. He is venerated as a saint by various Christian Churches, including the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church, and the Coptic Church, which regards him as its own patriarch and first bishop of Alexandria.

The reliquary does not contain human remains.
