Rare Gyarub Zangbo ungrouped pallasite meteorite slice from Xizang, China, with an olivine-rich iron–nickel matrix, polished to about 2.5 × 1.5 cm, weighing 5 g, and protected with a transparent resin coating.
Description from the seller
Beautiful polished slice of the Gyarub Zangbo pallasite meteorite, displaying a striking combination of metallic matrix and translucent olivine crystals.
Gyarub Zangbo was discovered in October 2020 in Xizang, China, on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. It is officially classified by the Meteoritical Bulletin as an ungrouped pallasite.
Pallasites are among the most visually spectacular meteorites, consisting primarily of olivine crystals embedded within an iron-nickel metallic matrix. In this specimen, the olivines range from golden-yellow and amber to darker greenish tones, creating particularly attractive contrasts when viewed under different lighting conditions.
The slice has been covered with a transparent protective resin. This treatment helps isolate the metallic component from humidity and therefore reduces the risk of oxidation, while also stabilising the slice and allowing the translucent olivine crystals to be appreciated more clearly. Protective epoxy coatings are also used on documented Gyarub Zangbo slices for preservation.
The photographs show the actual specimen offered.
