A 3 g olivine-rich polished slice of the Exceptional Sericho Pallasite Meteorite from the Habaswein area in Kenya.
Description from the seller
Beautiful polished slice of the Sericho pallasite meteorite, showing an attractive combination of translucent olivine crystals embedded within a metallic iron-nickel matrix.
Sericho is an officially recognised pallasite meteorite, found in 2016 near Sericho, Isiolo County, Kenya. The Meteoritical Bulletin records a total known mass of approximately 2.8 tonnes.
Pallasites are among the most visually spectacular meteorites, characterised by olivine crystals surrounded by metallic iron-nickel. This specimen displays numerous visible olivines with tones ranging from golden yellow and amber to olive green and darker brown, creating beautiful contrasts depending on the lighting.
The slice has been covered with a transparent protective resin. This coating helps isolate the metallic parts from humidity and therefore reduces the risk of oxidation. It also protects the delicate structure of the slice and makes the translucent olivine crystals particularly attractive when illuminated from behind.
The photographs show the actual specimen offered, including images taken with transmitted light to demonstrate the transparency and internal structure of the olivine crystals.
