Rare and refined centerpiece / pierced fruit basket (Swing-Handle Basket) in solid Sterling Silver 925, made in Dublin in 1908 by the renowned royal jewellers and silversmiths West & Son.
Of a shaped oval form and of imposing dimensions (29.5 cm in length and 569 g in weight), this splendid Edwardian-era piece stands out for the complexity of the pierced relief work, enhanced by lattice motifs, beaded borders, and floral details. The item is equipped with its original elaborately decorated swinging handle.
Marks and Punches present on the piece:
- Crowned Harp: Hallmark of the Dublin Assay Office for Sterling Silver 925.
- Hibernia: Dublin city/tax mark.
- Date letter "m" (in Gothic shield): Exact year of assay 1908.
- Maker's mark "W&S" (in the shamrock) and engraved signature "WEST & SON DUBLIN": Identify the famous Irish firm West & Son.
- Serial/inventory number engraved: 8459.
