Pastori abruzzesi con pecore, an unsigned 19th‑century drawing by Consalvo Carelli (1818–1900), executed circa 1870–1880 in pen and pencil with light ink washes on brown paper, about 13 × 19 cm, Italy, in good condition.
Description from the seller
This drawing on paper is the work titled "Pastori abruzzesi con pecore" (also noted simply as "Pastori abruzzesi" or "Pastore con armenti"), likely realized by the famous Italian painter Consalvo Carelli between 1870 and 1880.
The work, executed mainly in ink (sometimes enriched with light touches of monocrome watercolor or pencil), is a typical testimony of his production linked to pastoral and genre scenes. Carelli was in fact one of the most important exponents of the School of Posillipo, a Neapolitan 19th-century artistic movement specialized in the realistic and atmospheric rendering of the landscapes and customs of southern Italy.
• Technique and Materials: The drawing is executed mainly in black ink with pen and black pencil strokes, with light touches of diluted watercolor/ink for shading.
• Support: Flexible amber-colored paper glued onto a light browned cardboard from age.
• Dimensions of the work: About 13 x 19 cm
• Period of realization: Between 1870 and 1880.
• Condition: The sheet shows the classic signs of time typical of 19th-century paper, with mild foxing, even browning, and the original margins that display small imperfections due to manual trimming of the era.
