Description from the seller
Pair of Large Dishes Vecchio Montopoli – Milani Terracotta, signed by Gino Fossetti, 1940s/1950s
Description
Important pair of large decorative terracotta dishes from Montopoli, attributed to Milani Terracotta production and decorated by Gino Fossetti, one of the documented decorators of the manufactory.
The two pieces belong to the artistic production of Vecchio Montopoli – Milani Terracotta and bear on the back the original hand-engraved inscriptions.
The first plate, 36 cm in diameter, depicts a warrior in neorenaissance-style armored gear, on a green background with the characteristic decorative craquelure. On the back it bears the signature "G.F.", attributable to Gino Fossetti.
The second plate, 38 cm in diameter, depicts a childlike/woman figure immersed among branches and flowers, with rich polychrome decoration. On the back is the complete signature “Fossetti Gino.”
Specialist documentation on the Montopoli Terracottas identifies Gino Fossetti among the decorators of the Milani manufactory and documents several variants of his signature, including GF and Fossetti Gino.
The pair can be roughly dated to the late 1940s / early 1950s, in the Milani production period of the postwar era.
