Description from the seller

Anna Bila — Where Things Meet — XL

2026
Ink and pigments on stitched cotton canvas
Seams series

Where Things Meet belongs to Anna Bila’s new Seams series, in which separate painted fragments of canvas are physically joined together to form a single work.

Rather than treating the canvas as a neutral surface, Bila cuts, combines and stitches individual pieces together. The seams remain visible and become part of the composition — boundaries where different colours, traces and material histories meet.

In this work, three vertical fields of ochre, olive and violet are brought together into one surface. Each section retains its own character: stains, irregular transitions and traces left by the movement and absorption of liquid remain visible. The stitched boundaries interrupt this flow, creating a tension between continuity and fragmentation.

The series develops Bila’s ongoing interest in transformation and transitional states. Here, transformation occurs not only within the image but within the physical structure of the artwork itself. What has been separated is reconstructed, while the traces of that separation remain visible.

The artist works with water, inks and pigments, allowing absorption, gravity and chance to participate in the process while continuously intervening in the formation of the image.

About the artist

Anna Bila is a Ukrainian visual artist currently living and working in Turin, Italy.

The continuous process of becoming lies at the core of her artistic practice. She is interested in transitional states, when a person, an image, or a form exists between two conditions — no longer what it once was, but not yet something new.

For the artist, nothing in the world is ever truly complete. Living and non-living nature alike are in a constant state of transformation, whether those changes unfold within seconds or over much longer periods of time.
