Inna Etuvgi - THE BORSCH FAIRY

THE BORSCH FAIRY
fine art print by Inna Etuvgi

Cooking is not my strong suit. Real borsch - thick, dark red, better on the second day - takes hours, patience and a family recipe. I have none of these. So I did what people have always done with forces beyond their control: I gave it a face.

The ancient people had a god for the sea, for war, for love, even for envy. Whatever was too big to handle got a name and a body. My kitchen has its own unmanageable force, and now it has a deity too.

Borsch Fairy, help! :)

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Inna Etuvgi is a Swedish-Chukchi artist whose work defines the concept of Cybernetic Animism—a bridge between indigenous Arctic intuition and technical precision. Raised in a remote village in Chukotka and trained in technical cybernetics, Etuvgi explores the shared "soul" of natural ecosystems and digital algorithms.

Living with Aphantasia—the inability to visualize mental images—Etuvgi uses her camera and Generative AI as a "visual prosthesis" to externalize deep emotional landscapes. Her macro photography magnifies nature’s smallest details, urging a shift from a human-centered worldview to one of interconnectedness.

Internationally recognized as an Arte Laguna Prize finalist (Venice) and a recipient of the Swedish Arts Grants Committee grant, Etuvgi’s work is held in private collections worldwide. As art critic Tabish Khan notes: “Her work transports us to other worlds—both real and imaginary, but always in harmony with nature.”
