AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
Item Description
This is a small netsuke figure of a rabbit, carved from wood in a warm honey tone. The rabbit crouches with its head raised and its long ears laid back along the body. The fur is left smooth, while the ear ridges, facial features and toes are finely incised. The eyes are inlaid in a dark material and give the face a lively, alert expression.
The underside has two cord holes (himotoshi) for threading a cord, and an incised signature mark near them. The signature has not been deciphered, so the carver is not identified. The piece fits comfortably in the palm and works equally well as a collector's netsuke or a small display object.
