Description from the seller

[CICERO]
M. Tullii Ciceronis Scriptorum Fragmenta; collected by Robert Stephano, Carlo Sigonio, Andrea Patricio, &c. Also Fr. Fabricii Marcodurani Historia Ciceroniana, Per Consules descripta, & in annos LXIV. distincta.
Lugd. Batavor. [Leyde], Ex Officina Elzevirianâ [Elzévir], 1642.

One volume in-16 bound in full veau moucheté of the period, spine with gold decorations of rosettes and fillets, framing of blind fillets on the boards. A handsome classic exemplar coming from the presses of the famous Elzevir office.

This rare and sought-after edition brings together the dispersed fragments of Cicero's lost works, gathered by great Renaissance philologists such as Robert Estienne, Charles Sigonius, and Andrea Patricio. The work is complemented by François Fabricius de Marcinelle's Historia Ciceroniana (Fr. Fabricius Marcoduranus), which traces the life and career of the Roman orator year by year (over a period of sixty-four years, arranged by consuls).
The work also includes:

A title page engraved with the arms of the Elzevirs with the famous motto “Non solus” (representing the oak and the vintner).

An ex-libris engraved counterstick glued on the flyleaf with the inscription “Hic omne gaudium.”

A list of ancient authors (“Auctores, e quibus fragmenta hæc collecta”) whose writings allowed these fragments to be preserved, among whom Asconius, Saint Augustine, Boëce, Pliny, Quintilian, Seneca, Suetonius, Macrobe and many others.

Some ancient marginal notes on the first guards, bearing witness to the traceability of the copy (notably a mention of a bookseller or former owner: “Monsieur de Lagrange Marchand Carossier à Paris”).

Good copy.
