Michele Montanari (1908-1995) - Ostenda cattedrale

An impressive oil on canvas by the Italian painter and celebrated singer Michele Montanari (1908-1995), executed around the middle of the 20th century. The painting depicts an evocative view of the port of Ostend, Belgium. In the foreground stand out the characteristic boats moored in the canals, while in the background the silhouette of the city's Gothic cathedral dominates. The painterly handling is energetic, rich in substance, and masterfully renders the reflections on the water and the atmosphere typical of Nordic landscapes. The work is signed in the lower right by the artist “M. Montanari.” Completing the lot is a beautiful period frame in light, distressed wood.
