Description from the seller
An interesting work by the painter Albert Hoffsten (1885-1927 Sweden) painted in oil on panel.
The frame is original to the period.
Albert Hoffsten was a Swedish visual artist. He studied at the Art Union's School in Stockholm as well as in Paris. Hoffsten was affiliated with “De unga” and participated in two of their exhibitions. He was one of the most understated among the artists, Isaac Grünewald, Leander Engström, Gösta Sandels among others, who introduced modern expressionism in Swedish painting, and to some extent his art has fallen into obscurity after his early death from a chest illness, which in the last years substantially reduced his productivity. Hoffsten's painting is chromatic and he created portraits, landscapes with figures, and still lifes.
He stayed in Paris in 1911-1912. He joined in 1910 the association founded a few years earlier, De unga, and participated in its exhibitions in 1910 and 1911. In the following years he participated in group exhibitions, such as the Artistic Association's exhibition at Liljevalchs Art Hall in Stockholm 1916, Moderne svensk Kunst, at Den frie Udstilling in Copenhagen 1916, and Sveriges Allmänna Konstförenings exhibition at Liljevalchs Art Hall 1926.
Separatutställningar: at AB Konstverk at Lilla utställningen in Stockholm 1926, and in the same venue a memorial exhibition was organized in 1928.
Represented: in Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde. Flickporträtt, at Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
