Artist biography:
Former tagger in the 1990s, Enigme09 discovered photomontage in 2009. The painter Jacques Monory confirmed him in the path he chose by suggesting a poetic approach to his art.
His compositions combine elements from the advertising world or popular culture with others from the corpus of Art History. Their mixture is shocking, explosive, surprising, disturbing, but also invites reflection on the status of images and on a possible hierarchy of values between them.
The artist manages to give meaning to familiar signs, emptied of content due to their over-familiarity. But, of course, this meaning is, most often, very far from their original signified. Enigme09 sums up his artistic creed in a pithy maxim: “give a voice to images to open our eyes.”
