Casket - Driven brass - repoussé technique

Antique Old-Dutch brass coal bin / firewood chest with richly repoussé relief scenes – circa 1900

Offered: a beautiful and characterful antique coal bin (turf or firewood chest) executed in a rich Old-Dutch style.
This decorative piece is made from a wooden base, completely clad with repoussé brass plates that feature very detailed reliefs.
The front and sides display lively, artisanally worked tavern and peasant-scene tableaux reminiscent of the masterworks of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish masters.
Even the sloping lid is fully adorned with a detailed relief scene.
This type of chest was used around the turn of the century (19th/20th century) beside the fireplace or stove to store fuel elegantly.
Today it is a fantastic, atmospheric decorative piece for both classical and eclectic interiors; it is clean on the inside due to the absence of an inner tray, and can therefore be used as a firewood bin, toy box, newspaper bin, or unique storage chest.

The chest is in a beautiful antique condition.
The brass has developed a lovely deep patina over the years, which adds extra depth to the relief details.
There are normal signs of aging and use (such as light scratches, tiny dents, or discolorations consistent with its age) that contribute to its historic character.
See the photos for a full and accurate personal impression of the condition.
