Description from the seller

Maritime landscape painting "Breton Port in the Blue" - 2026
An original work that will bring a touch of authenticity and character to your interior.
A vast swath of luminous azure blue that occupies the entire upper half of the painting, almost uniform.
A compact stack of small coastal houses with white façades and blue or red roofs. A bell tower rises at the center of the composition.
The lower part shows a row of small boats moored, their hulls in red, white, green and yellow, and their masts reflecting vertically in water of a deep blue.
This work is aligned with synthetic and modern figurative painting, on the border of the semi-abstract.
The style strongly recalls the school of Marine painters as well as the influence of Post-Impressionism and Fauvism through the use of pure color. The approach also recalls Nicolas de Staël’s work in the simplification of urban shapes into small color blocks juxtaposed.
Portrait of the Breton painter in 1954
Canvas exhibited at the Paris Autumn Salon - 2022
Yves Decaudan’s work is part of a colorful figurative vein, heavily influenced by Fauvism and the Pont-Aven school, with a particular attachment to Breton coastal scenes.
His works regularly depict moments of calm, reading or outdoor daydreaming, in a maritime setting where time seems suspended.
The artist’s work is characterized by expressive, poetic figuration, driven by a keen sense of color and the synthesis of forms. The artist favors planes of pure, intense colors — such as this deep blue set against a brilliant red — creating an immediate, luminous visual tension.
The elements of the setting are outlined and simplified, going to the essential without dwelling on anatomical detail or strict realism, which brings his work closer to Fauvism or the art poster. His subjects, often solitary and maritime, convey an impression of stillness, serenity, or daydreaming suspended in time.
Through backgrounds treated in texture or speckled with light touches, he establishes a poetic depth rather than a geometric one.
Paintings exhibited in numerous private collections in Europe, North America, Africa and Oceania,
Acrylic on canvas, cotton, wooden frame, unframed, dimensions 80 x 60 cm
Shipping and secure packaging in special frame carton
