Description from the seller

Exciting illustrated edition in its pretty morocco binding of this vast historical and topographical synthesis devoted to the French capital and its architectural heritage -

The work, designed as an erudite fresco, traces the evolution of Paris from its origins to the 19th century, highlighting the religious, civil and military buildings that dot its development -

From La Gournerie, historian and scholar, it deploys a methodical approach, combining historical narrative, architectural description and cultural analysis, in order to give the reader a global vision of the city and its emblematic monuments -

Rare and sought-after, this book remains a precious piece for enthusiasts of urban history, heritage and bibliophilia, testifying to the importance accorded to Paris's monumental memory at the end of the 19th century -

Eugène de La Gournerie - Histoire de Paris et de ses monuments - 1883 - Alfred Mame et Fils -
400 Pages.

Good condition of the binding, the work in its full red percaline bound with publisher’s emblem, slight wear, heads a bit worn, beautiful gilt edges, smooth spine nicely decorated, gilded title and author’s name, superb engravings and gilt motifs on the first cover, black rules framed around the covers with a black motif in the center of the second cover -
