Five-volume illustrated edition of Œuvres complètes de Louis Pergaud (1975), published by Aux Editions du Club, bound in green morocco with a red publisher’s slipcase, with colour illustrations by Steinlen, original French text, 2148 pages, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Charming five-volume illustrated set of this collective edition, presenting the essential of the Franche-Comté writer's literary production, whose work is deeply marked by the observation of nature, rural life, the peasant world, childhood, and the power relations that structure human communities.
Born in 1882 and died prematurely in 1915 during the First World War, Pergaud left behind a relatively brief but highly rich oeuvre, in which realism, humor, social satire, and an extremely fine knowledge of the animal and rural world combine with vigorous and often poetic writing.
This edition in Volumes I, II, III, IV and V allows us to grasp his literary journey as a whole and to measure the diversity of a production that is not reduced to the famous La Guerre des boutons, even if that novel remains naturally one of his best-known texts.
