BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
Miguel Gimeno was a Spanish painter born in Granada in 1910, whose artistic output was closely linked to rural life and, especially, to the representation of animals.
From a young age he showed an interest in drawing and painting, finding much of his inspiration in the landscapes and rural settings of Andalusia. Horses, dogs, poultry, and farm animals became the main subjects of his compositions.
His painting is characterized by a figurative, naturalistic language, with special attention to the anatomy, movement, and expression of animals. He mainly worked in oil, using loose brushwork and a palette of earthy and natural tones that added warmth and realism to his scenes.
Throughout his career he maintained a body of work away from the major avant-garde currents, developing a personal style based on direct observation of nature and traditional animal painting.
Miguel Gimeno passed away in 1987, leaving a body of work focused mainly on animal painting and rural scenes.
