Description from the seller
CHIANAMORE (20th century) - "The Horses under the Circus Big Top" - Large oil on stretched panel (50 x 70 cm)
Description:
A superb, luminous and narrative original oil painting depicting the backstage of a traditional traveling circus. The work captures a suspended, poetic moment: three magnificent steeds (two white horses and a bay) patiently waiting tethered near a caravan and a wooden wheelwright cart. In the background, the vast saffron-orange canvas of the big top rises majestically, contrasting with the sobriety of the village roofs and the clarity of the azure sky. On the left side, the seated silhouette of a clown or artist in traditional costume adds a human, melancholic touch typical of circus imagery.
The artist deploys a precise, carefully rendered figurative touch, with an excellent sense of detail and drapery on the canvas covers, as well as a beautiful rendering of equine anatomy.
The work bears a very clear, readable handwritten signature CHIANAMORE in red in the bottom left corner.
