Marcel Souzy / André Galland - Les coloniaux Français illustres - 1940

Beautiful two-volume illustrated set of this edition devoted to the representation of French presence in colonial territories and to the presentation of the men, the activities, the landscapes and the institutions that then participated in organizing the French colonial empire -

Designed in the particular context of the first half of the 20th century, the ensemble belongs to an illustrated popularization literature that seeks to acquaint the metropolitan public with the realities of territories placed under French administration, notably by featuring the civil servants, soldiers, administrators, engineers, doctors, teachers, merchants and other personnel associated with the colonial enterprise -

The title directly highlights the “French colonials,” i.e., the French individuals present overseas and tasked, according to the concepts of the time, with various administrative, military, economic or social missions -
