Description from the seller
An Embroidered Silk Hanging Panel Depicting Eight Figures, with Auspicious Motifs on a Black Ground
Qing Dynasty
Finely embroidered on a black silk ground, this impressive hanging panel depicts eight elegantly rendered figures, including foreign figures presenting precious offerings, a traditional auspicious theme associated with tribute and abundance.
The upper section is embellished with bats and other auspicious motifs, symbolizing blessings and good fortune, while the lower section is decorated with stylized crashing waves. The figures are finely executed in polychrome embroidery, with particularly clear and expressive facial features and delicately rendered garments and details.
The overall composition is harmonious and well balanced, combining figural imagery with auspicious symbols and decorative elements characteristic of Qing-dynasty textile embroidery. The rich polychrome palette contrasts beautifully with the dark ground, enhancing the visual depth and decorative effect of the panel.
There is minor water staining consistent with age. Overall, the panel is in very good condition and retains its decorative appeal.
