Description from the seller

EXCEPTIONAL LOT OF HIGH BIBLIOPHILIA PARIS (1948-1953)
Reunion of two prestigious volumes published by the renowned society “Les Bibliophiles du Faubourg et du Papier,” sharing the same historic head-titre print run number.

PROVENANCE RARE & PRESTIGIOUS:
These two works carry the unique EXEMPLAIRE NO. XIX (19). They are part of the extremely rare first 25 head-made copies (strictly limited print run from I to XXV) exclusively reserved for the board members of the society. A unique opportunity for a bibliophile to own a coherent suite from this sought-after collection on old Paris.

DETAILS OF THE TWO MASTERPIECES INCLUDED:

1. "Saint-Germain-des-Prés, mon village" (1948) - Vol. XXII
• Captivating text by Léo Larguier (Academy Goncourt), magnificently illustrated with original lithographs by Jacques SIMON.
• Printed on superb cream felt paper (vélin crème pur chiffon) from the prestigious Papeteries de LANA.
• A vibrant, historical and anecdotal testimony of the Latin Quarter in the post-war period (232 pages).

2. "Reflets de l’Île Saint-Louis" (1953)
• Erudite text by François Boucher, enhanced by 32 original lithographs by Robert SANTERNE.
• Printed on magnificent white felt paper (vélin blanc pur chiffon) from the famous Papeteries de RIVES.
• EXEMPLAR EXCEPTIONALLY ENRICHED WITH ITS COMPLETE SUITE of the original lithographs printed separately in brown (bistre) color on precious Vergé pure chiffon cream paper from Papeteries du Marais (the presence of this suite doubles the rarity of the work).

Technical characteristics of the set:
• Large format In-4 (~33 x 26 cm) for the two volumes.
• Works presented “in sheets” (unbound) according to the purest tradition of art bibliophily, with gilt-printed wrappers, rigid boards, and original cardboard slipcases.

Condition:
The interiors of both volumes are in impeccable freshness (Very Good Condition); the leaves remained very clean, white and ideally preserved from humidity. The wrappers and outer protective slipcases are original; they show handling marks and normal marginal browning for pieces over 70 years old, having perfectly fulfilled their protective role.

A rare opportunity for Parisian heritage enthusiasts.
