Rare first edition French children’s illustrated book En aéroplane dans les 7 ciels by Jeanne Hovine, published in 1918 in Brussels by Éditions de l’Art décoratif C. Dangotte, softback, 33 × 24 cm, 20 pages, aviation theme, in very good condition with archival tape repairs to spine and internal pages.
Description from the seller
Rare first edition. A copy of this collection of illustrations showing aeroplanes in fantasy settings, with children in each. Five lithographs are printed in colour and five in b/w.
Blue paper covers. The rear cover has a closed tear which has been repaired with tape. The covers are a little dusty. Spine has been repaired with archival tape at some point (barely noticeable). Inside, further pages have archival tape repairs. So not a perfect copy !
After the title page, the charming illustrations give a child's imaginary journey on an aircraft through fairy land.
No copies are currently available for sale.
This is part of the 'collection du Petit Artiste' published by C. Dangotte; in the same collection as Léon Spilliaert's "Plaisirs d'hiver".
Jeanne Hovine (1888-1992) was an avid comic book artist (along with her sister Laure). Later she turned to the theatre and cinema, where she acted under the pseudonym Anne-Marie Ferrières. She continued to work in theatre and radio until she was 100.
33 x 24 cm.
The “Collection du Petit Artiste” (“the little artist’s collection”) published by Charles Dangotte in Brussels was a series of colouring albums for children
This is an unused copy of a rare item.
The series included Léon Spilliaert, the great Belgian symbolist, whose Plaisirs d’hiver (Winter Pleasures) appeared in the same collection
The title is a play on words: les 7 ciels means the seven heavens, as in “seventh heaven”.
