Description from the seller
Here we have an extremely wonderful oil on panel 19th Century English School, being a replica of an original John Constable piece painted circa 1805. The artwork features Golding Constable’s riding horse who was a personal familiar subject rather than a famous racehorse. This later version circa 1843 has a variant with the landscape setting being moorland or heath. Still has the characteristic of Constable having an unsentimental observation, soft naturalistic lighting with the silhouette of the horse against a wide open sky with distant hills.
