Description from the seller
This rare 1852 edition of Arpa Romana (The Romanian Harp) by C. D. Aripescu was printed in Bucharest at the Typography of the Holy Metropolis (Tipografia Sfintei Mitropolii). The work represents a fascinating historical and literary artifact from mid-19th-century Wallachia, printed in the Romanian transitional Cyrillic alphabet, which was used prior to the full adoption of the Latin alphabet. The internal title pages and dedication sections feature beautiful ornamental vignettes and classic period typography, highlighting its historical value for collectors of Eastern European antiquarian literature and early Romanian printings.
The volume appears to have been modernly rebound or restored with a sturdy half-leather / half-cloth hardcover binding featuring gilt lettering along the spine reading "ARPA ROMANA - BUCURESTI 1852". Inside, the paper shows natural age-related toning, minor spotting, and light foxing consistent with mid-19th-century rag paper, along with some subtle marginal restorations/reinforcements on a few pages. Overall, the text block remains firmly bound and fully legible throughout.
This item represents an extraordinary addition for serious collectors of rare Romanian books, Cyrillic imprints, or 19th-century Balkan history. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully to assess the precise physical condition and inner details of this remarkable volume.
