Fritz WAGNER (1896-1939) German

- Joyous Company in a Dutch Interior - rare and interesting oil on canvas, signed bottom left. Painted circa 1930-1935.

Beautiful and important genre scene by Fritz Wagner, depicting four characters gathered around a card game in an old interior. The richness of the details, the expressions of the characters, the light and the warm atmosphere attest to the artist's great narrative mastery.
The work is presented in its imposing richly sculpted gold frame, which emphasizes its decorative character.

Particularly interesting: the stretcher bears old handwritten annotations mentioning prices of 7,400 DM and 7,000 DM (Deutsche Mark), testifying to the early commercialisation of the work at a significant price level.
