Lot Description
Rare circular solid bronze vide-poche / coupelle patinated, belonging to the famous "Zodiac Signs" series created by the renowned French sculptor Louis Octave Maxime Le Verrier (artistically known as Max Le Verrier).
The main face features a superb central relief representing the sign of Sagittarius. The artistic composition displays the mythological figure of the centaur in full anatomical dynamism, drawing his bow toward the heavens, flanked by three five-point hollowed-out stars. The background presents a refined textured / hammered finish, typical of the artist's art casting. The lower rim bears the nominative inscription in uppercase: "SAGITTAIRE".
On the reverse (physical verification needed in your lot), the piece sits on three small integrated support feet. It bears the chiseled signature of the artist “M. Le Verrier”, the guarantee mark “BRONZE” and the recording corresponding to the zodiac calendar period ("23 Novembre - 21 Décembre").
Artistic Context
Max Le Verrier was one of the leading figures of the Art Deco movement in Paris. Awarded the gold medal at the prestigious 1925 International Exposition of Decorative Arts, his utilitarian pieces and sculptures are highly collectible for their exceptional casting quality and classical geometric stylization. This zodiac series reflects the era’s fascination with mysticism and astrology combined with luxury utilitarian design.
Condition State
• Condition: Excellent vintage / well-preserved condition. It presents an authentic and original patina consistent with the object's age, showing slight natural wear on raised surfaces that enhances the relief contrast. No restorations, cracks, or structural deformations.
