A pair of Meiji-era bronze Japanese candelabra featuring a crane on a tortoise with a lotus-form candleholder, each about 22 cm high and 8 cm wide, total weight around 525 g, in good condition.
Description from the seller
A singular pair of Japanese bronze candelabra, steeped in the Tsuru-Kame tradition, a symbolic composition formed by the crane and the tortoise, emblems of longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture. Each candelabrum features a stylized crane with fine plumage, depicted atop the turtle's shell and holding a plant stem that culminates in an elegant candleholder in the shape of a lotus flower. The meticulous bronze work stands out, especially in the plumage, shells, and vegetal elements, as well as the attractive patina gained with time.
In terms of typology and iconography, the ensemble corresponds to Japanese models developed during the Meiji period (1868–1912), sensibly dating to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. An especially decorative pair of great interest to collectors of Japanese bronze and oriental decorative arts.
Dimensions of each piece: approximately 22 cm high × 8 cm wide. Total weight of the pair: approximately 525 g.
